She was initially inspired by shadows reflected on grass. After a few weeks, she developed a method that didn't create the object she chose onto canvas in a flat image. Rather the subject is transformed into a representation of the subject, where the surface is the vehicle for its individual interpretation of the subject, particularly in the case of alive or perishable for example, like humans or fruit. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is a bit ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is her photograph. Trompe-l'oeil art is created by combining the two techniques of painting and photographing. The result is a flattened, two dimensional photograph. At times, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional world around them, allowing them to engage with the self-created universe. The distinctions between performance photography, and installation can be dissolved.
